END OF THE WAR! Provenance – hand written “Commissary 1st Brigade 2nd Cavalry Division taking leave of the Department near WINCHESTER, VA (dated) APRIL 1, 1865″. Photo depicts commissary camp quarters canvas tent over log structures. Sign on front of tent reads Subsistence substinance? Union soldiers posing for the camera. Oval photo measures 8″ height & 9″ width. Entire oval frame measures 14″ x 12″. Photo has come loose of frame (see last pic). If there is ever a question or concern please contact me right away so I can take care of it. Please ask all questions for a quick reply. Actually, this is larger than a CDV – cardboard image – an actual photograph. CORRECTION – THIS IS WHAT YOU’D CALL AN OVAL ALBUMEN FRAMED PHOTO NOT A CDV. It’s possible all 3 Civil War photographs I have listed (from the same estate) portray soldiers (and one officer) from PENNSYLVANIA regiments. This photo “possibly” portrays the 22nd PA cavalry raised out of Harrisburg, PA. Tracking their movements, this would place them near Winchester, VA during the date of April 1, 1865. Two weeks prior they were in Moorefield, WV about 30 min. I would love to know what that apparatus or opened case is in the front – is it a scale? Can anyone tell me?
