More on the Full-Plate Pennellograph. This is a full-plate hand-colored tintype of a Union Private Soldier killed during the skirmish at Lookout Mountain in Tennessee. Google, Pennellograph and you can see that these are rare tintypes that have been hand-colored. The surface of the image was stenciled and then layered with hand colored tinted carbons. Each pennellograph was sealed due to the fragile nature of the image surface. The original paper label is still on the back (someone taped it years ago) with a patent date of 1875. SO, what we have here is a full plate tintype taken during the war, then later hand colored in the pennellograph process. Has original backing, glass, and frame.
